On Device Processing

Feature Request

This one has two parts:

1) [DONE!] Live Court Validation (available on iOS now) — useful for properly recording games through the app.

2) Full local processing on your phone. This means if you are willing to keep the phone open for a while we can process videos on devices instead of on our beefy cloud servers. This might be a little inconvenient for processing times but we could then roll out alternative plan options for lower-cost use of PB Vision!

    Hi, The second one seems interesting but not as interesting as doing local processing at home. Given how much processing needs to be done on each video it seems like a more reasonable way to handle this is to allow a laptop or desktop with a more powerful GPU process the videos rather than the phone. Given how prevalent consumer GPUs are now this seems like many users could benefit from it. Especially if a lot of the costs for the plans are what you pay to the cloud providers for GPU instances it could be a good tradeoff.

    Good idea, @ryansun96 —it’s something we’ve been considering. Running the models locally is a possibility, but realistically, we wouldn’t be able to look into it until H2 next year.

    Our AI involves several complex models, and running them on an iPhone would likely take hours, making it more of an overnight plug-in situation. That could lead to issues with battery drain, overheating, and poor UX if errors occur.

    Additionally, we’d still want an option to upload videos so players can view them in their accounts and share links, so it wouldn’t fully address the need for uploads.

      Please add local processing. I don’t record my games that often and I still ran out of minutes in 5 months, making the $99/year plan more like a 6-month plan. 1200 minutes is realistically about 80-90 games, and if you play once/week that only lasts a few months. Paying $400/year for something I can run on my desktop GPU and still run into minute limits is just not something I can justify. I (and some friends that also use pbvision) will be cancelling after a year without this since it’s too expensive.
